Topografía de la Illaminako Ateeneko Leizea (BU-56)
During a 3 week expedition to BU56 in the Pyrenees, Spain, the terminal sump (7) was pushed. Operating for 7-8days underground at over 8km from the entrance and more than -1300m depth Jason Mallinson and Phil Rowsell passed Sumps 1,2 &3 on four consecutive days. Equipment was carried for 600m along a difficult, but large fossil passage, to Sump 7. Sump 7 was pushed in 1 dive for 250m at -25m in a huge tunnel. Further dives were curtailed by rebreather flooding and drysuit zip failure. Sump 4 (active sump) was also investigated. A high grade survey was also carried out from sump3 to sump7, giving some very interesting data! BU56 is a very arduous cave and requires a supreme effort to dive the terminal sumps, and so full credit should go to the 30+ support team who not only bottomed the cave, but also transported the dive gear down and out again.
